My Ideal Education System for Namibia

My friend Micheal "Mike" Nauta asked me to give him my Ideal education system for Namibia in 2030, I initially thought I had next to nothing to say on the topic but I recalled two excellent posts on home-schooling by Leo Babauta and Penelope Trunk I read a few years back and wondered if it could be adapted to make a nationwide impact, the vision that came  to me was beautiful. It's rather controversial as I am not a proponent of the current traditional "School System" I'll even go as far as to say that the children who follow this path in the future will be left behind but without further adieu here's my thoughts.

It is my dream that in the Future all children will have access to a completely independent school system, where the initial goal will be to expose children to as many things as possible, psychologically identify their personality type with a series of simple questions and then let THEM individually decide what they want to do with their free time as long it's specified and somewhat constructive. It should be a free flowing system where those who want to do Math all day are free to do so, those who prefer to draw and make models of planes all day may do so as well, and so on. There should be no penalties on any decisions made and children should be able to change from what ever they're learning at will, the idea is that all children in Namibia should be able to fuel and follow their curiosity unhindered and independently search for answers. Naturally this will require a nation wide availability of computers/tablets, and most importantly the Internet an excess of instructors would also be benaficial. While this is all rather controversial and can't fully be explained in just one post I feel this will generate an incredible amount of specialised, independent thinkers and innovative entrepreneurs. 

The thought of Namibia being at the forefront of ushering in the new, formless and flexible stage of human education along with the developed countries (who are only now realizing the system is flawed) absolutely excites me. I do think it's possible but it will also require very present parents/guardians, because a child cannot do this level of self discovery alone. This form of education can even be done at home if the child wishes to do so. Exposure to new interest should always be around, be it books, magazines, even word of mouth and if interests are identified early perhaps exposure to people more established in the said industry can be facilitated.

So after a nationwide growth in awareness, maturity and significant financial investment perhaps this dream can be realized and we'll have an incredibly innovative generation, with real world skills instead of more squandered school days in an attempted "One size fit's all" system.
